Known mainly for his time fronting the Glam Rock bands Vibralux as well asMercury Mad & The Plastic Bitches, Mercury AKA MERQ is currently incorporating all that he has learned since his days of Music Theater to his more recent nights of Rock n Roll debauchery in one full-bodied experience. Neither the theatrics or musicality of the Mercury Mad show should come as any surprise to those who know his history. The young singer/guitarist who played the Plant in ÒLittle Shop of HorrorsÓ in high school went on to study graphic design and Music Comp at KSU while playing guitar for productions such as "Hair" and "Bye Bye Birdie". Mad spent his off time teaching guitar for KSU's continuing education program and moonlighting in tenor roles such as Jack in SondheimÕs ÒInto the WoodsÓ and Henrik in ÒA Little Night Music.Ó His love of performance and the stage would cause him to transfer to The University of Kansas and choose his final major in Theatre & Film. Theatre would be the melting pot for Mad and his juggling various art forms. It was here he caught his musical tour bug playing guitar for th KU production of "School House Rock Live". Mercury Mad continued to develop his artistic repertoire when he became the make-up artist for a University production of Vaclav HavelÕs ÒTemptation,Ó a job that required precision and creativity in the delicate art that would come to mean so much to his on-stage persona. When Mad created Vibralux in 2001, he combined all the things he had learned: the acting, the singing, the make-up and not to mention the various bands he had been in since his teens. He made himself into the sarcastic Messianic figure audiences came to know and love using all his talents. In 2003 Vibralux was featured on the cover of Rock Kansas.Com and stole KC Pitch Weekly's award for Best Drag Show. In 2004 the group was nominated for The Pitch Best live Performance. In the spring of 2006 Merc accepted the NYC Fresh Fruits award for best live performance on behalf of Vibralux. While working with Vibralux he opened for acts such as Black Pool Lights, Straylight run, Venus De Mars, The Genitorturers, Attrition, and Shiny Toy Guns. Mercury Mad persevered and continued work in all his beloved art forms as singer/songwriter, makeup artist, DJ / Host & as an outlet for his prolific writing, design talent, and desire to entertain. While continuing with his tours he backed Minneapolis group, APOX on Bass and Guitar for the U-35 DVD video tour. He also started work on a new album in 2008 and formed a three piece unit known as The Plastic Bitches featuring Himself, Vibralux Bassist Asmo, & the young rowdy Muppet Drummer TRIBB. 2010-2011 NEWS Mercury Mad as of had taken time off from the DJ/Party scene to continue work as a Makeup Artist & perform in the virtual world of Second Life as avitar (Mercury Madzuko). He is currently working on two recording projects an acoustic album titled "Between The Lamp and The Sun the Moth Speaks" & The latest Alternative Glam Grunge album from his live band titled "Mercury Mad & The Plastic Bitches". |
